Darren explores ways of how to represent the human form in an original and exciting manner. "I attempt to imbue the work with a feeling of unease, whilst focusing on specific psychologcal aspects of the human condition, such as inertia and isolation". He seeks ways that the paint's physical nature should complement the painted image, thereby making the painting process a consuming activity. He often crops his compositions, sometimes resulting in the exclusion of facial features. "Aspects that are excluded can be as important as that which can be seen".
