Jacqueline Wylie

Jacqueline Wylie is worried about how value is assigned to art materials so she knits to calm her nerves. "The historical associations of hand knitting are domestic and gender based: this was an activity carried out largely by women in their own homes, so art - that's a guy thing, right?"
Much of Jacqueline's work refers to contemporary painting practice and like the artists Agnes Martin, Bridget Riley, and Jason Martin she deploys abstraction and process in a self-reflexive way that turns attention onto the materials and techniques used.
This year she has been working with Contemporary Art Project (CAP) to show artwork into community spaces like St Mary Magdalene Church, Euston and St Bartholomew's in Brighton. In 2002 Jacqueline will be an artist in residence at Bolton Institute's Dept. of Art & Design as part of the Artists Access to Art Colleges (AA2A) project.
