Martin often paints images in series in order to explore a theme while simultaneously fusing disparate elements to ensure that each piece is visually intriguing in its own right. The titles for these artworks are specifically chosen to conjure up multiple associations and give the first hint of the many subtle complexities at play. "One of my intentions in making these small paintings is that they should fill a larger space than their actual dimensions imply, either through their intense colour or by working as a series where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts".
